JUNE 15, 7.30 – 8.30 PM

What should I do if I want to participate:

At a minimum, switch all electric lights (including battery powered ones) off for the one hour.

If at all possible, switch of all equipment at home that runs on electricity – including fans, AC, TV, computer, refrigerator. You can do this simply by pulling out the main fuse.

If this is too complicated for you, switch off as many appliances as you can.

Talk to your friends, relatives and colleagues – even those in other places. Tell them what you’re doing. Tell them to think about it.

People will joke with you that there is government power cut anyway. This is not merely about saving power – though that also helps. It is to spread awareness about a problem that is threatening the eintire humanity.

Have a plan with your family members what you are going to do together during that one hour.

Some suggestions are

  • Have a moonlight dinner (June 15 th is the 12 th night before full moon – should be quite brilliant moonlight).
  • Have a candle light dinner
  • Count the stars in the sky
  • Invite some friends over and play antyakshari
  • If you have little children, teach them all the games you played at their age – do you remember kalla gajja kankalamma? Do you remember oppula kuppa?
  • Each person in the house take turns to tell a story.

This is not a punishment!!
Use your imagination – have fun!!!
